Guest Spotlight Author ~ Cindy Spencer Pape

This week I am so pleased that one of my favorite authors agreed to come back to share her latest baby, "The Gaslight Chronicles."  (Check out that awesome cover)
I won't waste too much time with introductions so Cindy can have as much of the floor as she needs.
Sit back and enjoy!!

Welcome to the Gaslight Chronicles. It’s England in the 1850’s but not the way our history books remember it. You see, in this world, computers, driven by steam and clockwork, already exist. Imagine Dickensian London with robots and dirigibles. Oh yeah—there’s also magick, and the vampyres here aren’t the sparkly kind. They’re gross and smelly, and they want you dead.
To combat evil wizards and vampyres and other things that go bump in the night, a venerable British institution still exists, undercover, but charged by the crown with protecting the realm from all threats mortal and otherwise. The Order of the Round Table is still mainly composed of the descendants of Lancelot, Merlin, Tristram, Kay, and all the others. They’re trained to fight with pistol, sword, technology and magick. And sometimes, they fall in love. Altogether, they’re a hodge-podge of steampunk, fantasy, history and romance.
The first two books in the Gaslight Chronicles are available now from Carina Press.  Steam and Sorcery will introduce you to the Order and is a full-length novel, while Photographs & Phantoms moves us a few years along and is a FREE novella, to celebrate Steampunk Week, this week at Carina Press. If you’ve ever been thinking about trying steampunk, this is your chance to do it for absolutely free.
I want to thank Robin for hosting me this week, and let everyone know you can find me on the web at: http://www.cindyspencerpape.com, Blog, Newsletter group, Twitter, and Facebook. You’ll also want to stop by the Carina Press paranormal authors’ group blog, Here Be Magic, and check out the week-long contest we’re running for a really cool steampunk ring.
Now here’s a little bit of blurbage to get us started. Check back each day this week for an excerpt of either Steam & Sorcery or Photographs & Phantoms.

London, 1851

Sir Merrick Hadrian hunts monsters, both human and supernatural. A Knight of the Order of the Round Table, his use of magick and the technologies of steam power have made him both respected and feared. But his considerable skills are useless in the face of his greatest challenge, guardianship of five unusual children. At a loss, Merrick enlists the aid of a governess.
Miss Caroline Bristol is reluctant to work for a bachelor but she needs a position, and these former street children touch her heart. While she tends to break any mechanical device she touches, it never occurs to her that she might be something more than human. All she knows is that Merrick is the most dangerously attractive man she’s ever met—and out of reach for a mere governess.
When conspiracy threatens to blur the distinction between humans and monsters, Caroline and Merrick must join forces, and the fate of humanity hinges upon their combined skills of steam and sorcery…

Brighton, 1855

As a member of the Order of the Round Table, Kendall Lake is overqualified to be investigating strange phenomena at a seaside photography studio. But since the photographer is related to the Order’s most powerful sorcerer, Kendall reluctantly boards a dirigible to Brighton.
Amy Deland is haunted by a shadow that appears in some of her recent portraits. In each case, the subject died within days of the sitting. Does she have her grandmother’s gift of foresight, or has she somehow caused the deaths?
As Kendall and Amy search for answers, their investigation draws them together in a most improper way. But it seems the evil presence in the studio is determined to keep them apart…
