Blood and Treasure

*NOTE* as a tribute to the pirates who light up our imagination, please enjoy the pics from Pirate's of the Caribbean...

Say it ain't so!!!
Today's tasty treat is Jennifer Bray-Weber's last excerpt offering. It has been a pleasure having her share bits and pieces about her writing career, personal life and even lending us Zane Fox from Blood and Treasure...which I must admit was my favorite day.
Today may come as a close second, but believe me, it's not because she's leaving. In fact, if anything, it's because I now have an opportunity to invite her back as soon as she can squeeze us into her busy schedule.
Keep your fingers crossed that she'll agree. =^-^=
(Award-winning Novel) Although Lianna Whitney was gently bred, she must now empty slop buckets and fight off randy sailors in a seaport tavern to survive. One night, she unexpectedly comes into possession of a golden medallion. But when the man who left it with her is immediately murdered by soldiers of the Royal Navy, she’s afraid to admit she has it. Unsure who to trust, she’s caught up in crossfire between navy officers and a pirate captain, who, realizing she possesses the object he’s been paid to find, whisks her away to his ship during the fight.
Privateer Captain Zane Fox is not interested in the mystical healing powers the medallion is said to hold, even though the legends claim it can bring a dying man back to life. He only plans to procure the medallion, drop the chit off at the next port where she’ll be safe, and collect the money he was promised. However, as they fend off storms at sea and attempt to outrun the Royal Navy, the two are also fighting the attraction they feel for one another. But when they are captured, Zane must choose between recovering the medallion and saving Lianna from the noose. And soon it becomes clear to him that the medallion is not the only treasure worth risking his life for.

EXCERPT:
Zane pulled Lianna into a back alley, pinning her to the wall. He crushed his lips to hers, sweeping his tongue inside her mouth. A need for him pooled in her like liquid fire. She had never imagined wanting someone like this before. And she would have never before consented to abandoning her independence for a man. Yet there she stood, intertwined in a white-hot heat with a peculiar rogue she had only known a little more than a week, trusting her life to him. She was either as crazy as a loon or crazy in love.

She cupped his face in her hands just as she pulled away to peer up at him. She swore he could render her helpless with those searing blue eyes should he want to. And that would be all right.
He took hold of her hands. “That was a very brave thing you did back there.” His voice oozed husky and deep, like rich molasses.
“Thank—”
Zane mashed her wrists together and tacked them over her head to the wall with one fisted hand. Confused, she frowned up at him.
“And very stupid.”
“What?” He was angry with her and that only ruffled her feathers. “How dare you chide me?”
He lashed out at her irrationally. “You need to get over your fancy idea of taking on the world, lass.”
“Me?” She couldn’t believe what she heard. She struggled against his grip. “What about the way you prance around like you own the whole damned Caribbean?” Lianna couldn’t read Zane’s expression in the dim light. But she sensed it. And it screamed deadly.
“I do own the whole damned Caribbean,” he snarled. “I take liberty, power, and pleasure and boast satiety aplenty. It’s all mine.” The corners of his mouth twitched. Hooking his finger in her bodice, he peered down her valley.
“You egotistical rake.”
“Aye.” His heated gaze slowly met hers again. “And it doesn’t mean a thing without you, Lianna.”
He buried his lips into her neck, each smoldering kiss branding her. She let a moan escape. It frustrated her how his kisses just blew away her anger and doubt like ashes in the wind. She wanted to stay mad at him for his rebuke. But how could she when he followed up with a confession like that? Not to mention how he made her body feel so alive, so sensitive with his touch.
“You should’ve gotten on that boat,” he mumbled, his lips skimming her skin.
Thank you so much, Jennifer, by the way, Johnny asked to sit next to you!!
